Angklung Theology: Constructing Local Theology in Gereja Kristen Pasundan Using Sunda Cultural Elements
Gereja Kristen Pasundan is a multicultural church located in a specific context, western part of Java influenced by Sunda culture. It has tangible and intangible forms, which is the deepest form of the culture. The intangible forms consist of Sunda values, local wisdom, worldview, pamali or taboos and the philosophy of Tritangtu. These intangible Sunda cultural forms become GKP identity as well.
GKP has intensive attention to church independency on theology, human resources and finances. Constructing Angklung theology is one of GKP's efforts to have church independency on theology based on local context. Thus, it is important to learn from Sunda culture.
Angklung theology as GKP local theology focuses not only on how GKP can utilize Sunda culture elements in its ministry and witness, but mainly as a local theology that described GKP's respond to its context. It is all about “doing” aspects as a church in West Java context.
