Arsitektur Ibadah yang Hidup: Mendesain Ibadah Minggu yang Berdimensi Pastoral Melalui Metode Building Phases di Gereja Kristen Pasundan (GKP)
This thesis originates from my concerns for the worship practice in the Pasundan Christian Church (Gereja Kristen Pasundan - GKP). Worship is a medium of encounter between people and God, and with one another. Sunday worship is generally the main time for the parishioners to meet with one another. However, in GKP planning and coordinating of Sunday worship are not well and seriously attended. The Sunday worship, so far, involves minimum planning and practice that relate to human-physical, mental, social, and spiritual dimensions. It is caused by lack of knowledge and ability to plan and manage the Sunday worship that give emphasis on the pastoral aspect. Furthermore, GKP sometimes overlook the necessity of thoroughly and seriously preparing the Sunday worship. Therefore, some church members deem that the worship as dry and stiff, because it focuses more on the verbal and intellectual dimensions. The worship becomes wordy and most audibly emphasizing.
Data of this thesis are acquired through field research and library research. I survey three GKP’s congregations, namely GKP Kampung Sawah, GKP Jati Asih, and GKP Cimuning, representing a general view on the Sunday worship in GKP.
I propose that Sunday worship include a more holistic approach involving the physical, mental, social, and spiritual dimensions. It also should pay attention to the pastoral functions, namely healing, sustaining, guiding, reconciling, and nurturing, as suggested by the Pastoral Care Studies. In order to develop and carry out a more holistic and pastoral Sunday worship, I use the method of building phases in liturgy proposed by Constance M. Cherry.
